All Levels Topic Classes

First time dancing? Trying a new style? Been in Blues for years?

Our social dances all begin with an all level class intended to provide a foundation to newcomers looking to explore while introducing thoughtful topics for more experienced dancers. This series is designed to help first time dancers find their groove and get comfortable moving both with and without a partner while rotating instructors, topics, and dancers keep each class unique and fresh. Whether you are brand new to blues or attempting to level up your skills, all dancers can benefit from this class.

No experience, reservation, or partner necessary. Please avoid wearing strong fragrances. Shoes that can slide are recommended.

Workshops

Looking for more? Workshops are more deliberate learning opportunities where the community can explore deeper topics, like musicality, rhythm, and expression. Whether you have been part of the blues community for decades, are crossing over from another style, or have only been dancing a few weeks, workshops are a stupendous way to level up your dancing. Our workshop events, as well as those put on by our community partners, are listed on the NYC Blues Calendar and announced in the BDNY Newsletter.

Introducing Blues Tune-Up Clinic!

Blues Tune-Up holds space for the community to explore ideas while 2-3 instructors are available to answer questions. Have a dance move you can't quite figure out? Want some insight into habits you might not be aware of? Looking for feedback from professional dance instructors? This is the place for you! Blues Tune-Up is intended for dancers who already have experience dancing blues and could benefit from more individualized instruction.

Benefits of Blues Tune-Up Style Classes!!

"At the last Blues Office Hours I attended, I spent a long time drilling my connection. I've been dancing for a while (since 2009!) but also dance other dances, and find my connection changes depending on which dances I've been dancing most recently. After about a half hour of dancing with one particular partner, I managed to identify how lightening and strengthening the tension in my connection arm changed the drag and style I danced with. It's something that I could not improve upon alone, and also something that having one experienced partner for an extended period of time helped with greatly. I look forward to future Blues Office Hours to continue deepening my partnered techniques!"
